Lafayette- Kam Movassaghi, Ph.D., P.E., President of Fenstermaker, has recently been designated as a "National Associate" of the National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies. This honor, bestowed upon an elite few throughout the country, is in recognition of his extraordinary service pro bono publico, or for the public good. This designation, in acknowledgment of Dr. Movassaghi's past service to the NRC of the National Academies, is a lifetime appointment.
Recipients of this prestigious honor were among 5,908 individuals who served on one or more of the 574 active committees of the NRC and 1,500 people who served as report reviewers. From these 7,408 members, only 903 were recognized for their extraordinary contributions.
The NRC is one of the four organizations that comprise the National Academies, including the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine. The goal of the National Academies is to bring together "committees of experts in all areas of scientific and technical endeavor" in order "to address critical issues and give advice to the federal government and the public" on matters of science, technology, and health.
Dr. Movassaghi's professional career spans over forty years of industrial, academic, and public service. He has been the President of Fenstermaker since January of 2005. From 1998 to 2004, Dr, Movassaghi was the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. For seven years prior to this, Dr. Movassaghi headed the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
