Three Fenstermaker Engineers were recently recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers for exemplary achievements in their field and for significant contributions to the Engineering profession. Two of these gentlemen have also earned these honors at the State/Section level and will be acknowledged for their accomplishments at the Annual ASCE Fall Conference, to be held September 23 – 24 in Kenner, LA. Recipients of these awards are evaluated on their involvement with ASCE, service to advance the civil engineering profession, service to the community outside of the field of engineering, technical accomplishments, and other evidence of merit or character.
Kam Movassaghi, PhD, P.E. is the recipient of ASCE's Lifetime Achievement Award - Louisiana Section. Dr. Movassaghi was also honored to receive the Lifetime Acheivement Award from ASCE's Acadiana Branch. He is the President of FENSTERMAKER, and has been a driving force in the community and the state for many years. His professional career spans over 40 years of industrial, academic, and public service. Dr. Movassaghi is the immediate former Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LDOTD); he was appointed to that position in December 1998 and served for six years. In that capacity, he led a staff of 5,300 people and managed a budget of $1.3 billion. Dr. Movassaghi planned and implemented a comprehensive management and financial structure that expedited completion of a 30 year $3.5 billion statewide highway construction program, (the TIMED program), to less than 10 years; this was the single largest construction program in the history of the LDOTD. Dr. Movassaghi was an active member of the American Association of Safety Highway Transportations Officials (AASHTO) and served as the chair of the organization's Design Subcommittee and also the Standing Committee on Research. He also served as President of the Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) from 2007-2008 and on the T&DI Board of Governors from 2005 to 2009. For seven years Dr. Movassaghi headed the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; he also directed ULL's graduate program in Engineering Management and led a research center in spatial analysis. His publications and scholarly work have been in the areas of transportation engineering, network analysis, mathematical optimization, engineering economic program and project management.
Earning the Outstanding Young Civil Engineer Award - ASCE Louisiana Section and at the Acadiana Branch level was Dax Douet, P.E. Mr. Douet is a Section Director for FENSTERMAKER's Engineering Division specializing in both transportation and hydraulic design. Mr. Douet's experience includes performing transportation feasibility studies statewide, hydrodynamic modeling studies, coastal restoration engineering projects, drainage impact studies, roadway design projects, and general municipal engineering consultation. He has worked on many private, local, state, and federal projects to include the Lafayette Consolidated Government, City of New Iberia, Iberia Parish, Louisiana Department of Transportation, Department of Natural Resources, National Marine and Fisheries Services, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and various clients in the oil and gas sector. Mr. Douet has earned this award for his high level of professionalism, the caliber of his expertise, and working to promote the profession of Civil Engineering at the university level, the Acadiana Region, and the State of Louisiana. Mr. Douet is currently serving on the Board of Directors of ASCE Louisiana Section.
Om Dixit, P.E., another member of the Fenstermaker Engineering team, was selected by ASCE (New Orleans, LA Branch) to receive the Lifetime Achievement distinction. He will be recognized for this outstanding achievement at the group's September 9, 2009 luncheon to be held in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Dixit is a Senior Engineer with over forty years of experience in designing, supervising, and managing numerous projects such as hydraulic analyses, water treatment plants, sewerage treatment plants and roadway, and bridge design. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the States of Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Kentucky.
