Advancing waterline design
Upgrading the Highway 90 main
On LA Highway 90, our team is helping Calcasieu Parish strengthen a system that thousands of residents depend on every single day.
As part of the Parish’s broader water district consolidation effort, this project moves forward with a focused scope—one that:
‣ replaces approximately 3,750 feet of existing 6-inch waterline with a new 12-inch main,
‣ adds roughly 1,500 feet of new waterline to the system,
‣ shifts the alignment from the south side of Highway 90 to the north, and
‣ prepares the corridor to meet both current demands and future growth.
In the field, that work takes constant coordination.
In this clip, DC Stemmans, E.I., and Engineering Technician Allison O’Quain walk through the realities of navigating a corridor dense with existing infrastructure, including:
‣ high-voltage transmission poles,
‣ marked gas mains and service lines,
‣ existing service connections, and
‣ legacy waterlines tied to older systems.
Each element introduces its own constraint—one that must be respected, verified, and planned around with care.
They describe the hours spent confirming clearances, locating tie-ins, incorporating updated service connection details, and ensuring every alignment meets standards while fitting safely within a crowded utility environment.
For DC and Allison, both part of the Lake Charles community, this project is personal.
Behind what may look like a simple line on paper is a team—DC, Allison, Heather, Andrew, Austin—working together to deliver infrastructure that is reliable, resilient, and built for the future.
For all of us at Fenstermaker, it’s an honor to support improvements that will serve Calcasieu Parish for generations.
